An easy and fun outing to discover the snow effortlessly: walk on white landscapes, learn the basics, identify tracks, and enjoy spectacular scenery surrounded by forests and silence.
Perfect for families, couples, and curious adventurers who want to experience winter “for real” for the first time.
What does the baptism consist of?
We meet at the designated meeting point, introduce ourselves, check the equipment, and learn how to adjust the snowshoes and walk comfortably and safely on snow.
The route starts gently to get a feel for walking on snow without fatigue. From there, we venture into the winter landscape, combining snow progression with small interpretive stops: observing what we see, how the terrain behaves, and why winter changes the mountain scenery.
During the outing, we will learn to:
-
Recognize animal tracks and traces in winter.
-
Observe signs of surface avalanches/purges and how snow communicates with us at a glance.
-
Interpret orientation, shadows, and wind, and how they affect the snow.
All of this is presented in a light and natural way—without technical jargon—so that the baptism is truly about discovering the mountains, not just walking.
Additionally, we will share small local stories:
-
Pyrenean legends
-
Traditional mountain culture
-
History of the Aran Valley
This makes the experience more human, authentic, and connected to the territory.
The activity ends with a brief closing session where we share impressions and questions, and where you can ask anything about equipment, safety, snow, or future routes.
Approximate total duration: 2 hours
The Val d’Aran is a unique valley in the Pyrenees, with its own character, language, culture, and traditions that make it special. Located in the north of Catalonia and surrounded by high mountains, the valley offers stunning snowy landscapes in winter: black pine forests, frozen clearings, icy rivers, and viewpoints with breathtaking views.
During the outing, you will be able to enjoy:
-
Natural landscapes of great beauty and absolute silence
-
Tracks and traces of winter wildlife, such as foxes, hares, or forest birds
-
Small cultural and traditional details of the valley: stone and slate villages, old shepherding routes, local legends
-
The living history of the Val d’Aran, where every corner has a name and origin that connects us with its inhabitants
The route is adapted to snow conditions and the group’s safety, always seeking the best spots to enjoy nature and learn about the surroundings. It’s an experience that combines scenery, culture, and light adventure—perfect for your first encounter with the winter mountains.
During the outing, we will walk at a relaxed pace, with breaks to rest, enjoy the scenery, and learn the secrets of the snow. The guide will teach you basic progression techniques, how to use snowshoes and poles correctly, and how to interpret the tracks and signs of wildlife living in the valley. You will also learn basic safety concepts, how to read the terrain, and signs indicating areas of snow accumulation or small surface avalanches.
The route is adapted to the day’s conditions: fresh snow, open areas, forest clearings, and small viewpoints offering spectacular panoramas. Between walks, you’ll discover curiosities about the Val d’Aran, such as its culture, local legends, and the history of its villages, making the experience more authentic and memorable.
